Making A Difference
Getting professional carpet cleaning booked in is the easy part. Getting your home ready beforehand is where a lot of people are unsure what to do, and whether they even need to do anything at all. The good news is that preparing for a professional clean does not take long and does not require much effort – but doing it properly will make a genuine difference to the results you get on the day.
Clear The Room
The more floor space the cleaning team can access without having to work around obstacles, the more thorough the cleaning will be. Before the appointment, try to remove smaller items of furniture where possible – things like coffee tables, toy boxes, lamps, magazine racks and anything else that sits on the floor.
You do not need to empty the entire room, and a good cleaning team will always be happy to move heavier pieces of furniture if needed, but clearing the obvious clutter beforehand means more time spent actually cleaning and less time spent shuffling things about.
Take anything fragile or valuable off low shelves or surfaces nearby, too, just as a precaution. It is a small thing, but worth doing.
Give The Room A Vacuum
This one surprises some people, but vacuuming before professional carpet cleaning arrives is genuinely worthwhile. Removing the loose surface debris – dust, pet hair, crumbs and general dry dirt – means the cleaning equipment can focus on the deeper soiling that has worked its way into the carpet fibres over time. If the machine has to deal with a heavy layer of surface mess first, it is doing two jobs at once and neither as effectively as it could.
A thorough vacuum the day before or the morning of the appointment is ideal. Pay attention to edges and corners where dust tends to collect.
